Revised Chapter 1
Traven rushed through the rainforest that sheltered his home from the heavy rains. Rain that had been falling the last six months. Ever since the humans had returned to their planet through the mountain gate. The river had already overrun its banks three months ago and needed a raft to cross. Since the bridge was also underwater he took another route. Racing through the lower branches of the magnificent towering trees, going from one to the next. Back towards the headquarters to make his report to Captain Ravon.
Traven had been sent out on a scouting mission, and to check on the other inhabitants of the surrounding area. Due to the increase in water from the storm falling upon them, the Tray-Vardi had to move much of their people, animals, and harvest to other locations. The scientists felt they had a probable idea on when the weather would turn for the better, at least they hoped.
“This rain needs to end, or my feathers will mold” Traven grumbled to himself.
Usually the planet only had three months of wet season, this year had been the worst that Traven could ever remember. Continuing his run through the forest, a small cry stopped him. Taking a moment to search, he came across a rather soaked looking lambin kit. The creature the humans called an ocelot.
“Oh, you poor kit, where’s your family huh?” he trilled comfortingly to it.
He first looked to see if he could spot its family, but he could see nothing. Searching quickly for the tiny creature’s home but he knew that it most likely would not survive if he left it there. Traven continued to look for a bit, but after another few minutes, he had to give up the search.
“Guess you are with me for now.” Traven said as he gathered the kit to him and wrapped it in a small towel he had before continuing to viridian. He would drop the kit off with the scientists to make sure it was healthy and if it could be taken care of.
“Almost there, kit. Finally,” he trilled aloud. The closer he got to the city the happier he was, he was missing the feeling of being dry. Traven entered the base with relief of finally being out of the constant downpour. Hurrying to drop the poor kit off with the scientists before heading down the twisting hallways to report to his captain.
“What do you have there, Traven? Bringing home strays again?” Sosa trilled laughingly.
“I found this lambin kit as I was coming back to base, could you check on him? I need to report to the Captain.” He inquired of the scientist.
Sosa gladly took the kit off his hands, immediately crooning to comfort it, “Oh you poor thing, let’s get you dry.”
While he continued explaining what had happened on his mission, Sosa checked the kit over.
“Thank you for saving it Traven, we will let you know when you can come back for him.” Bavri thanked him.
Traven could tell the scientists were looking for a distraction, they were just as concerned as the rest of them and had been working constantly to try and find answers and solutions. From the looks on their faces they had not been able to find much. With the kit safely in the arms of Sosa and Bavri, Traven continued to the Captain’s office. He needed to report and hopefully share an idea with Captain Ravon. Shortly he stood in front of the door before taking a breath in and knocking. At his knock Rosen, the Captain’s assistant, opened and gestured him in.
“Come in Traven” She said.
